Don’t be afraid to think outside the box with your fashion (nightgowns can totally double as super cute shirts)

27679248523_ae613d4ca9_oOver time, I’ve definitely become more adventurous with my sense of style. I used to play it very safe when it came to my clothes. For years after the birth of my kids, my normal day to day uniform was a rotation of the same few men’s sweatpants and baggier t-shirts (usually men’s as well). As a new mom, the last thing I wanted to waste time on was my fashion. It’s only recently that I’ve made a very conscious effort to discover my own unique sense of style. This outfit for me really stands out as a great example of how far I’ve come. The shorts are from Torrid Fashion and are super comfortable. They quickly became one of my favorite pairs last summer. So not too far out of my comfort zone until you consider the “top” I’m wearing.

I received so many compliments on this top, and everyone was shocked when I told them it was actually a nightgown from Lane Bryant. It actually caught my eye as I was walking out through the Cacique side of the Lane Bryant at my local mall. Now I’m all for wearing pretty things to bed, but I felt like this particular nightgown was too pretty to confine solely to my bedroom. I love the lace details at the top and it actually has a really pretty big red bow on the back that I forgot to get a picture of. As I contemplated trying it on, I asked the saleslady if I was insane for considering buying this to wear outside of the house. She told me that she would never have the guts to wear it out, but she could see no reason why it wouldn’t be acceptable for me to wear out. Nothing shows that would be considered improper and she agreed that this one was particularly pretty. So I tried it on, and bought it. I figured even if I never wore it out, it would make a great addition to my collection of nightgowns. As of this posting, however, it has never actually been worn as a nightgown and has been worn as part of an outfit several times. Now when I visit Lane Bryant, I make it a point to stroll through Cacique as well looking for other pieces that can become part of my day to day wardrobe.
