Motivation Monday: favorite workouts from last week

It’s Monday again, which is a day that most people view with dread. I find that using Monday to reflect on my workouts from the previous week helps to motivate me as I begin my workout week all over again. This week, there were two workouts that really stood out to me so I decided to share them both. I like them both for different reasons,  so it only felt appropriate to talk about them both.

This first video is from my arm day, and was a brand new exercise for me. This set of three different bicep exercises is known collectively as bicep curls 21s. I used a 30# EZ curl bar, which is actually pretty lightweight compared to what I normally lift, and the preacher curl bench at the gym. This exercise, however, is more about the form than how heavy you can lift. The first set is halfway up bicep curls, which means you start with your arms fully extended and only come up half way. The second set is halfway down bicep curls, starting with your arms all the way up and extending halfway down. Then you finish off the exercise with full range of the motion bicep curls. This exercises is great because it activates all three heads of your bicep with all the different variations on the basic bicep curl. This can be a great option for someone who is bored with traditional bicep curls.

The second video I’ve chosen was from the medicine ball circuit of the my XIT class. This exercise is called medicine ball circle slams. Unlike a standard front or side to side medicine ball slam, you circle the medicine ball across your body from your waist and release once you’ve passed over your head. I always like to new variations of exercises I already use in my workouts as it helps to open up my repertoire. I had to share this video, because it’s not only a great way to raise your heartrate but it just looks super cool.  I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I do and that it can give you some ideas of new exercises to add to your own routine.
