Sartorial Saturday

I love the idea of having a day devoted to my favorite outfit for the previous week, but felt like Fashion Flashback Friday was a bit of a mouthful. I do have a great appreciation for alliteration , however, so I spent all week trying to come up with a better alternative. Well inspiration finally struck me yesterday and I am proud to welcome you to the very first Sartorial Saturday.

My favorite outfit from last week was a very special outfit that I’ve been saving for just the right occasion. Last Sunday, my husband and I finally got to go see Hamilton. It was almost a 9 month wait between when I originally scored out tickets and the date of our show. It took me about 45 minutes to finally secure tickets on their release date and our show date was one of the last of the original announced dates but we had them. So there was a lot of anticipation involved in this whole endeavor. I’m a huge fan of musical theater in general, and an even bigger fan of Lin Manuel Miranda in particular. We attended the pre-broadway opening of his show In the Heights and I was enthralled with the music. The same is true for his work on Moana. There’s something about his music that just speaks to my soul.

So finally getting to see Hamilton was a HUGE deal for me. I wanted this to be a as special as possible, so I purposely avoided listening to the soundtrack or reading any more than the headlines of reviews. I also set aside a fabulous outfit to make the occasion even more momentous. This dress is one of the pieces that Christian Siriano designed for Lane Bryant. When I first saw it, I knew I had found my perfect Hamilton dress. This dress had been hanging in my closet just waiting for its day in the sun. I love the mermaid silhouette, because it really accentuates my curves. And the mesh and beadwork really gives the whole dress an even more elegant feel. As I was getting dressed, I decided that the best way to accessorize this dress would be with a headband so as not to risk damaging the top of the dress. I had just the right floral headband from Henri Bendel, and positioned it so that it would sit on my head more like a tiara than a headband. It added just the right touch of color and fit in with the overall elegant fell of the dress. I am so in love with this whole look. It was the icing on top of what was an amazing theater experience for me. I was blown away by Hamilton, and am so glad that I went into it completely fresh. I will admit that I’ve been listening to the soundtrack pretty much nonstop all week. I had so many people stop me inside the theater on comment on this outfit, including the bartender. I can’t say I’ve ever felt so beautiful as I did this day, so I’m thankful that I have the chance to immortalized this amazing look. I’m including one more pic from home because I love this outfit that much.
