So I got a little caught up with life again and missed my Motivation Monday post for last week, so I will be posting two videos tonight. I am putting an reminder in mycalendar so I don’t miss it again. It’s just too easy for things to get lost in the fray sometimes and I really enjoy taking the time to reflect on past workouts.
Week of March 27- April 2
This is another piece of equipment that is new to my gym, the jump trainer. Most people I’ve seen using it thus far don’t seem to understand how brilliant this machine is. I’ve mainly seen people use it as a squat machine or just for simple jumps. After 10 years of pilates, I immediately recognized this machines potential as a jump board. There are many different variations that are used when performing jump board in a reformer class and this is definitely one of the more challenging ones. You have to complete your full range of motion before the carriage returns to its starting position. After just 10 reps, my heart rate got all the way up to 147 which is within the cardio zone. Not bad for an exercise laying down.
Week of April 3-9
The video for this last week is also pilates related, although this one is from my actual pilates class. This is standing side splits and it is also one of the more challenging pilates moves in my repertoire. It involves a ton of concentration to not fall flat on your face. It’s important that all movement originates from your core so while this move makes your inner thighs burn it’s still a predominantly a core exercise. As I’ve discovered over the last 10 years, a strong core leads to a strong body. I’m able to lift more, run better, and punch harder because I take the time to strengthen my core. It’s truly remarkable.
