Today, I had the opportunity to do two different boxing combinations back to back on the focus mitts and the bag. I thought this would be a great opportunity to show how the same moves vary based on how you’re approaching them. With the bag, you can’t really get in as close as you can working with the focus mitts. Nor is there the same push back when you punch. As a result, I much prefer working with the focus mitts. The bag is great for practicing form and really learning a combination, whereas the focus mitts are more like a dance or a fight. I would love to actually get in a boxing ring and spar, but focus mitts are the closest I’ll get to an actual fight. Due to my 6 concussions from my years playing rugby, I just can’t afford to risk another one. So I will continue to live vicariously through my boxing class, after all pretending to battle a foe can be just as good as actually doing it.
The combination is jab-jab-squat-jab-jab.
