Pilates involves a lot of core work, but with moves other than just crunches. Even with something like the jump board exercises shown below, you control your movement with your core more than your legs. While my legs are very strong, these exercises are more impressive due to the amount of control that I am able to maintain by engaging my core. After all a strong core equals a strong body. I’ve been doing pilates for over 10 years and I’ve seen improvement in all aspects of my fitness including running, boxing, and lifting. I also have far fewer injuries related to my more high impact workouts when I’m doing pilates regularly. It’s a great low impact workout that complements everything else I do and it never becomes easy. Even after 10 years, it challenges me each and every week.

Jump board-knee tucks is the hardest of the exercises. It requires a lot of contro not to just crash down when you land.
Jump board- airplanes is also one of the more challenging exercises. Although it’s easier to and softly, since your legs remain extended though the whole movement.
