One of the things I love most about my focus on lifting heavy as my fitness benchmark is definitely achieving a new personal record or PR. This is the heaviest you’ve ever successfully done the exercise. In some cases, this can be a single rep at a super high weight. I usually need to do at least 6 successive reps to consider it a PR for myself. This week I tackled the leg press and I really wanted to earn a new PR. My previous PR was 630 pounds or 14 45 pound plates. This was my final set. I started at 540 pounds and added 90 pounds each new set until I got to the full 720. I felt great doing this and never felt like I was pushing myself too far. I got 8 full reps in at this weight, so I’m confident declaring that this is my new PR. It’s actually very exciting for me, because I really believe that if I continue with my workouts I will eventually make it to a 1000 pound leg press.
