After missing boxing last week due to our family vacation, I was super excited to get back to my routine. I am a complete creature of habit, so I try really hard not to vary from my normal workouts too much. This week, our instructor not only added some kickboxing but also these cool boxing plus body weight exercise combinations. This video shows our progressive push-up combination. After each jab-cross-jab-cross combination, we added 1 push-up before we started the whole thing over again. This went on for 1 minutes and the goal was just to do as many as possible during that time limit. I don’t know if you’ve ever done push-ups in boxing gloves, but it takes a certain amount of skill and concentration not to roll your wrist. This really got my heart rate up and provided a fun challenge
This second combination involves the same basic concept, but with a single burpee in between each boxing combination at bag. This one involved both hooks and kicks, which added another layer of difficulty. You’ll notice that I chose to do this one without wearing boxing gloves. If push-ups with gloves are hard, then burpees in boxing gloves are almost impossible. I knew that I would have better control while hitting the bag than I would performing burpees, so I removed the gloves from the equation. This combination was very challenging but it felt so great to be able to do it over and over.
