Anyone who works out regularly has probably done their fair share of lunges. Lord knows that I have, so it becomes important to find ways to mix up this basic exercise to keep it challenging. This can be done through a variation of the exercise (side lunge, walking lunge, curtsy lunge, etc.) or by turning it into a compound movement. This video shows a basic walking lunges with a medicine ball twist added in. This helps to make the overall exercise more challenging and helps to raise your heart rate higher than just doing a simple lunge. With this exercise, it is very important to keep you back straight and rotate over your front leg to help avoid injury. I did this with a 12# medicine ball. This is not a move that you want to use too much weight with as it is incredibly easy to tweak your back if you don’t maintain good form.
