Fitness Friday-keep your heart rate up

Not every workout involves a lot of cardio work, but if you’re able to maintain a higher heart rate you get a much better calorie burn. This can be achieved by using heavier weights, imcorporating more compound/complex movements in your workout, or adding little bursts of cardio to help raise your heart rate during a less cardiovacularly challenging workout.

Our most recent XIT session is a great example of this concept. It involves a lot of resistance band training, which while challenging does not really elevate your heart rate. For some of the strength circuit, I replaced the bands with dumb bells to make it harder. I also added the following little minute-long cardio bursts of jumping rope or bosu side to sides to keep my heart rate in the desired range. I could have also done burpees, high knees, or jumping jacks
