Today was my first boxing class in 3 weeks, which is a ridiculously long time when it comes to exercising. Even though I maintained my normal training levels with the exception of boxing, today’s class kicked my butt. There truly is nothing quite like boxing. From keeping your arms up to guard your face to staying moving as you punch, it’s probably he most full body workout that I do and the once that calls for the most endurance. That being said its also the most rewarding. There is something so satisfying about making contact with the bag and watching it swing away from the impact. We added in quite a few elbows to our combinations today, and they were even more satisfying than punching for me. It might be that that motion is closer to things that I used to do on the rugby pitch, but whatever the reason I’m looking forward to throwing more elbows. It could also be that you have to maintain more control when throwing an elbow to avoid scraping your elbow across the bag. You still want to put force behind it, but it requires a bit more finesse since you don’t have anything protecting your elbow. And I know for a fact that catching your elbow on the bag hurts, as I’ve done it before. I’ve always actually kind of hated throwing elbows because of that, but today I found my groove and it opened up a whole new world.
