Motivation Monday- ducking with focus mitts

I love getting the chance to practice evasive maneuvers. It’s fun when we add ducking into our combinations but it can be hard to gauge how much you need to duck when hitting the bag. When we get to practice with a resistance band stretched between rowers, it’s much easier to get into a rhythm with the movement. Even better is when we get to include punches to the focus mitts. It helps the exercise feel more like a fight that just a combination. When you duck without punching, you’re evading an attack form your opponent. Then you duck back into their face with a quick combination. The jab-cross serves to push them off balance a bit and then the uppercut is your power shot. It’s always so fun to get a sense of how the moves we’ve practiced over and over again would translate into a fight, but without the threat of a concussion or other serious injury.
