My current leg press PR is 1040 pounds, which is 22 45 pound plates and 2 25 pound plates. I was able to do 6 reps at this wait, but it was a struggle. My goal is always to keep improving, but I don’t want to risk ruining my knees so I’m taking a different approach. Instead of just trying to add more weight the next time I attempt a leg press, I’ve decided to work on doing more reps and sets at lower weights. One way to do this is work on my single leg leg press weights. If I make both of my legs stronger independently, then I will see more strength when I use them together. In both these videos, I’m leg pressing 250 pounds. This weight was pretty darn easy for my right leg, but was much harder for my left leg. I did 5 sets of 12 reps on each leg and will attempt to move up next time and maintain the number of reps. I’m hoping that doing this will allow me to increase my overall leg press PR without any injuries.
