Last weekend, I got to attend a Zumbathon for ALS. I always love any chance to dance, but its especially awesome when you’re doing it for a good cause. It was just under two hours of dancing, and I’m proud to say that I danced almost the whole time. It had been a long time since I had done Zumba, but it was like no time had passed at all. I recognized some of the songs from the classes I took before my focus shifted more towards lifting and had no problem picking up the moves for the songs I had never heard before. There is something life changing about being in a room full of people dancing for the pure joy of it. No one cared if you were perfectly on beat, because they were too caught up in the joy of dancing. I know Zumba was one of the first classes that really helped me become committed to working out when I first got started over a decade ago. It just never felt like a workout even though I was burning a fair amount of calories. And that’s still true today, I danced my heart out and had a ball. It wasn’t till I woke up sore the next morning that I realized what an awesome workout I had gotten. Those are the types of workouts that you need to discover your passion for working out.
