We all have days (or even weeks, months, years) when we’re just not on top of our game. As much work as it takes to reach a certain fitness level, a sickness or injury can derail your progress drastically. Last week, I came down with some type of bug. I spent most of Wednesday either sleeping or laying on the couch doing nothing. I didn’t even have an urge to try to get in a low impact workout to try to sweat it out. For me, that’s one of the biggest indications that I am actually sick. I usually do my XIT workout on Wednesday and that was definitely out of the question. By Friday, I felt recovered enough to attempt my missed XIT workout albeit not at full throttle. I was hopeful that I could sweat out the rest of my illness without killing myself. I’m proud to say that I made it through the entire workout and actually burned a fair amount of calories even without pushing myself to my limits. One of the most important things I’ve learned along the way on my fitness journey is to listen to my body and trust it. I can tell when something is an injury or just soreness from my workout. I know when a low impact workout will improve how I feel and when it will just make things worse. Usually a workout makes me feel better, but not always. Knowing my body helps me to not only avoid unnecessary injuries but stay healthier overall.
