One thing I love about boxing is that you can approach any combination one of two ways. You can aim for pure power or you can try to focus on control. These two videos are a perfect depiction of this as the combinations are just mirror images of each other. In the top video, I just went with power and you can see the bag swinging wildly back and forth. This does make the combination a little harder as I had to allow for the movement of the bag. The second video, I decided to try to focus on not letting the bag move so much. This involves a lot more concentration on just landing the punches without putting too much power behind it. In many ways this is the much harder approach for me. I’ve always been pretty powerful, but control is not always my strong suit. It is always a nice reminder that just relying on strength does not always result in a complete workout. Instead a nice blend of power and control is the way to go.
